Hello friend!  It’s almost back-to-school time, and I’m wondering – is it just me or do you also get tightness in your chest whenever you think about homework time with your kids?  Have you wondered when is the best time to do homework – right when they get home from school or after a little break?  I know I have.  Or maybe you just want to know how much you really should be helping your child on special projects.  I think we’ve all seen the diorama that was clearly built by mama. 😉

In light of school about to begin for many of us in the U.S., I thought it would be timely to make good on my promise and share a resource that I’ve found helpful.

I discovered the goldmine that is The Child Repair Guide with Dr. Steve Silvestro podcast a few weeks back when doing some research on the web. Dr. Silvestro is a pediatrician and parent who according to his bio, “brings the wisdom and insights of the world’s best childhood health and wellness experts directly to parents in one trusted source–to give parents the best tools possible to raise happy, healthy, confident kids.”

What a treasure is that?!  And to quote my dear friend Carrie, “and there’s no copay”!  (Carrie is a treasure too.) Although we both know a podcast can’t replace our pediatrician, this does have some wonderful nuggets from experts in the field.

Below is a link to an episode titled “How to Make Homework Time Less of a Struggle” featuring Zoie Hoffman, who founded Hoffman Tutoring Group.  You’ll get her insights on the above questions, plus more. I definitely plan to implement some of the tips into our routine!

This is on Apple Podcasts, but if you look it up wherever you listen to podcasts, I’m sure you can find it there. And if you really enjoy this episode, I recommend perusing the list a little and see if there are any others that pique your interest.  I think you’ll be glad you did!

Biblical Application

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4

“But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.’ ” Matthew 19:14

Wishing you a peaceful school year,
Amy
